Conference in Numerical Analysis

The conference will be held in the town of Chania on the island of Crete. Chania has an International Airport as well as an international harbour. Chania International Airport "I. Daskalogiannis" is located about 15 km to the east of the city's center. Souda's harbour is located about 6 km to the south-east of the city's center.

How to get to Chania
  1. Fly to Chania, to the Chania International Airport. During the Summer season (April to October) there are charter flights between Chania and major European cities (consult a local travel agent). During the whole year, there are regular flights from Athens and Thessaloniki (consult a travel agent or visit the sites of the airlines Olympic Air, AegeanAir and Athens Airways).

  2. Fly to Athens, to the Athens International Airport. From Athens Harbour at Pireaus, you can take the ferry boat to Chania's harbour, at Souda Bay (consult a travel agent or visit ANEK's web-site).

Transportation at Chania.

The standard way to get from Chania's airport to the city is the taxi. The ride costs about 15 Euros. There is also a bus, but the rides are not frequent.

To get from Chania harbour at Souda's bay to Chania and back, you can take a taxi (about 15 Euros), or the bus (see http://www.chaniabus.gr/eng/souda.html or http://www.chaniabus.gr/souda.html).

For getting to various locations in and around the city of Chania there is local public transportation. For the bus rides within Chania and suburbs see www.chaniabus.gr/eng/index.html and for the bus rides from Chania to cities in Crete see www.bus-service-crete-ktel.com

Transportation at Athens.

There are plenty of public transportation means to get from the Athens airport to the Pireaus harbour and back. Some of these are:

  1. bus lines X96 (express) and E96 from Athens Airport to Piraeus (see www.oasa.gr),
  2. metro line 3 from Athens Airport (direction: Egaleo), then (at station: Monastiraki) switch to line 1 (direction: Piraeus) to Piraeus (see www.amel.gr and www.isap.gr),
  3. suburban railway "Proastiakos" from Athens Airport (direction: Ano Liosia), then (at station: Neratziotisa) switch to line 1 (direction: Piraeus) to Piraeus (see www.proastiakos.gr and www.isap.gr),

See also the map of public transportation service of the airport http://www.oasa.gr/pdf/airport2004.pdf

You can also get a taxi from Athens Airport to Piraeus. The ride costs about 35 Euros and the taxi stand at the Athens airport extends from Door 4 to Door 1 at the Arrivals Level.

General note on taxis.

It is a good idea to ask for a price estimate beforehand. The taxi must have a working counter for the price of the ride. If the counter is not working, do not take that taxi. There is a surcharge for luggage, late night rides, servicing airports and terminals. Tipping is not required and seldom practiced, but drivers tend to round up their fare. Tolls are paid by the driver and added up in the final price. Taxis shall normally take up to 4 people, including seating in the front seat.

APNUM Special Issue:
Full papers presented at the Conference may be submitted for publication in a Special Issue of Applied Numerical Mathematics. Details for paper submission to this special issue are now posted at the Special Issue page.
